FAQs
What type of flagpole is best?
Flagpoles are typically available in aluminium, fibreglass or steel. Aluminium flagpoles are the most popular option in construction and house building for a variety of reasons:
- Corrosion-resistance
Unlike steel, aluminium showhome flagpoles don’t rust, making them easier to maintain and less susceptible to wear and tear.
- Lighter in weight
Aluminium flagpoles are lighter in weight and come in two parts, making it easier to transport and install your flagpole.
- Recyclable
Aluminium flagpoles are recyclable. So when it comes to replacing them, you can help protect the environment.
Is aluminium or stainless steel better for a flag pole?
If your construction site is exposed to really high winds, steel flagpoles are stronger and can hold the flag and any potential wind-loading.
If you’re planning on installing housebuilder flagpoles at multiple sites then aluminium flagpoles are a better option. They’re lighter to transport, easier to install and are less susceptible to wear, tear and rust.
Is a fibreglass flagpole better than an aluminium flagpole?
Fibreglass flagpoles are better for shorter flagpoles while aluminium flagpoles are the best option for house builders or construction sites. Although fibreglass is typically harder wearing, aluminium flagpoles offer better wind-resistance at heights of 6 metres or taller.
How much does a new flagpole cost?
A single flag and flagpole costs just £203. However, price does vary depending on the quantity required with discounts on larger orders. You can also order individual flagpole components separately. Aluminium flagpoles start from just £129 per pole while replacement flags are available from £19.30 each.
What gauge aluminium is best for flag poles?
When it comes to the diameter and wall thickness of aluminium flagpoles, thicker means stronger.
Aluminium flagpoles can vary in diameter with thicker poles offering greater strength and wind-resistance. Showhome flagpoles come in two parts with one pole measuring 55mm in diameter and the other 65mm in diameter.
Housebuilder flagpoles have 2mm thick pole walls, which is strong enough for construction sites, forecourts or garden flag poles.
How long do aluminium flagpoles last?
Aluminium flagpoles don’t rust and are designed to last a very long time. Your flagpole can last decades depending on the weather it is exposed to. If exposed to consistently high winds, then it’s not likely to last quite as long.
How do you install a flagpole in the ground?
Before installing your flagpole into the ground, here’s a list of tools and materials you will need:
- Spade or digger
- Spirit level
- Tape measure
- Cement
- Gravel
Use the diagram and step-by-step guide below to install a flagpole in the ground at your showhome or housebuilder site.
Step 1 – Select your flagpole location
Check for underground pipes and wires. Ensure your flag has enough clearance to fly in all directions
Step 2 – Dig your hole
Dig a hole 66cm deep with the base of your hole measuring 15 -20 cm wide and the top of your hole 30-45 cm wide.
Step 3 – Add gravel into your hole
Place 5cm of gravel into the bottom of your hole to cater for drainage.
Step 4 – Place your ground sleeve into your gravel
Place your ground sleeve into the gravel and cover the top to prevent concrete from flowing inside.
Step 5 – Mix cement and pour around ground sleeve
Mix enough cement to fill the remaining 61cm depth of your hole. Pour concrete around the ground sleeve.
Step 6 – Insert your flagpole into the ground sleeve
Carefully insert your showhome flagpole into your ground sleeve. The cement will still be wet so ensure you use a spirit level to ensure the pole is straight. Once level, remove the pole and allow the concrete to set for 24 hours.
Step 7 – Assemble your flagpole
Attach your flag to the flagpole using the instructions further down this page and secure your housebuilder flagpole in place.
What flag is used for flag poles?
The rotating arms of housebuilder flagpoles are designed to display portrait style flags at all times, even without wind. Portrait flags for flag poles come in two set sizes. Both are 0.9 metres wide with a choice of 1.8 or 2.5 metres long.
What flag material is best for high winds?
110gsm warp knitted polyester is a popular choice for high winds at construction sites and showhomes. Knitted polyester is lightweight and printed using a dye-sublimation process to create high-impact graphics for banners and flags. B1 fire rated and machine washable, knitted polyester makes it easier to keep your flags on poles looking clean and fresh.
