FAQs
What is a roller banner?
A roller banner is a free standing banner that unrolls to show a wide strip of material printed with a chosen design on. Roller banners can also be known as:
- roll up banners
- pull up banners
- pop up banners
- pop out banners
- standing banners
- display banner stands
- exhibition banners
- conference banners
Roller banners are easy to assemble, transport and reuse making them a cost-effective choice for events or exhibitions. Each roller banner comes with a base that retracts your printed roller banner and a pole to erect your pop up banner when in use.
Why use roller banners?
Roller banners are often used at exhibitions, events and conferences to attract people to your display stand. Creating an effective pull up banner will make your stall stand out amongst other businesses leading to more interactions and potential enquiries.
Roller banners are a popular choice for event branding due to the 5 benefits below:
- Cost-effective form of advertising
- Visually appealing and engaging
- Easy to transport
- Reusable for multiple events
- Take up small amount of storage space
What makes a good roller banner?
When designing a good banner stand, pull up or roller banner, consider what you want to achieve from your design. If you want to attract attention at events, follow the tips below:
- Use large fonts and images so your pop up banner can be seen from a distance
- Use contrasting colours for your background and text for better readability
- Focus on one main message rather than multiple topics
- Keep safety margins in mind to prevent any of your design being cut off
- Maintain your brand identity and colours throughout your design
- Consider adding a QR code that takes your audience directly to your website or social media
A useful way of creating an effective roller banner is to split your design into 3 sections:
- Top third: your brand logo
- Middle third: your main message
- Bottom third: your contact information and call to action
Choosing wide or multiple roller banners for displays helps you tell a better story or elaborate on different messages you want to put out.
What do you put on an exhibition banner?
A great exhibition banner will stand out to attendees that your business is talking to. A poor banner design is likely to see attendees glance and carry on walking.
Your roller banner is there to attract people to your stall, not close a sale. Keep your pull up simple whilst you, your flyers, brochures and business cards do the selling.
To have the best chance of standing out at exhibitions, here’s 3 things you should put on your exhibition or conference banner:
1. Focus on one product or service
Don’t overload your banner stand with too much information. Attendees just won’t bother reading it. Focus on one product or service that will tell people who you are and what you do.
2. Brand, colours and images
Include your brand logo and colours. Ensure your colours and text contrast well so it is easier to read. Use images if appropriate but ensure they are high resolution. Blurry images will give a poor impression of your brand.
3. Contact details
Add an interactive element for event attendees. Add a QR code that takes them to your website, social media or even a game they can take part in. If this doesn’t suit your brand, ensure your contact details are large and clear for your audience to take note of.
What is the best material for a roll up banner?
PVC is the best material for roller and pull up banners due to its longevity and high-impact print quality. Roller banners are made with anti-curl properties and a grey back to prevent light shining through.
What size are roller banners?
The most popular roller banner size is 85 centimetres wide by 200 centimetres tall which is classed as ‘Small’ in our range. Wider roll up banners are growing in popularity due to the greater strength and sturdiness of banner stands. Wide retractable banners are a great way of helping you stand out at exhibitions, conferences or events.

How do you put a banner stand together?
Putting up a roller banner is simple. Just follow the 8 steps below:
- Your roller banner will come in a carry bag. Remove the contents from your bag and lay them out in the area you want to display your pull up banner
- Turn the feet of your retractable banner cartridge so it will stand up securely
- Take the pole from your carry bag and extend to its full length
- With the plain side of your retractable banner facing you, place your foot on one of the metal feet
- Pull the banner up from the cassette until it is at chest height
- Fit the pole connector into the bar at the top of your pull up banner
- Now use the pole to extend your retractable banner to full height.
- Secure the bottom end of your pole into the metal cassette at the base of your roller banner
Things to know:
- Don’t pull your retractable banner further than the height of your pole. Doing this could damage the retracting mechanism of your roller banner.
- Don’t ever drop the banner from full height. Slowly guide it gently back into the base so it is retracted correctly.
How do you pack away a banner stand?
Prevent your retractable banner mechanism becoming damaged, follow the 8 steps below to safely disassemble your pop up banner:
- Use one hand to hold the top of your banner
- Place your foot on one of the metal feet to keep it firmly in place
- Use your other hand to remove the bottom of your pole from the retractable banner base. Ensure you keep the top of your pole connected to the roller banner.
- Slowly let the banner retract into the cassette until it reaches chest height
- Keep one hand on top of the banner and remove the pole from the top of your retractable banner
- Slowly lower the remainder of your roller banner into the cassette
- Turn the feet of your cassette so they’re no longer showing
- Pack away your items into the carry bag provided
