FAQs
What is a building wrap?
A building wrap is a large mesh graphic fitted to scaffolding or temporary structures. It promotes branding and screens construction works while allowing airflow and debris containment.
Is building wrap necessary?
Not mandatory, but highly beneficial for:
- Brand visibility
- Site presentation
- Public safety messaging
- Dust and debris control
- Professional project branding
Should scaffolding have netting?
Mesh wraps or debris netting can help contain dust and provide weather protection for workers and the surrounding area.
What types of building wrap are available?
Common materials include polyester mesh, PVC mesh and debris netting. We recommend heavy polyester mesh for UK projects due to its strength, air permeability and durability.
How thick is scaffold and building wrap?
Building wrap is made from heavy polyester mesh and is 230gsm thick. This thickness offers great strength and durability whilst being 30% lighter than PVC mesh, making it easier to transport and install.
How much does a building wrap weigh?
Polyester mesh weighs 230 grams per square metre. Here are some example weights based on popular building wrap sizes.
| Size (metres) | Total Square Metres | Example Weight (kg) |
|---|---|---|
| 5 x 3 | 15 | 34.5kg |
| 10 x 3 | 30 | 69kg |
| 20 x 6 | 120 | 276kg |
| 30 x 10 | 300 | 690kg |
| 40 x 12 | 480 | 1104kg |
How long does mesh building wrap last?
The lifespan of your building wrap depends on installation, weather exposure and maintenance. Polyester mesh is strong, durable and UV resistant to help maintain visual quality.
Is it weatherproof?
Yes. Mesh wraps are designed for outdoor use and resist wind (52% air permeable), rain and sunlight.
Do I need reinforced Keder hems?
For building wraps over 25 square metres, we strongly recommend using reinforced Keder hems. This adds more strength and stability around the steel eyelets to prevent your building wrap from ripping or falling down in adverse weather conditions.
How much does building wrap cost?
Prices start from £12.94 per square metre. Final cost depends on size, material and other project requirements.
